Obituary of Harold A. Monroe

WARRENSBURG/HUDSON FALLS: Harold A. Monroe, better known to everyone as “Rusty”, passed away with his cherished wife and daughters by his side on March 7, 2024, succumbing to complications from pneumonia and Parkinson’s disease. He was 73 years young. 

Rusty made the world a better place on April 23, 1950 when he was born in Glens Falls, NY to the late Harold and Jane (Davis) Monroe Combs. He graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1968. He began his career with the Grand Union Company while he was still in high school and furthered his expertise by attending meat cutting school.  He dedicated almost 48 years of his life before retiring in 2015.  He then moved to Wake Forest, North Carolina for over three years and worked for Harris Teeter and made several new friends.  

Rusty also enjoyed watching his 3 grandsons, Jacob, Noah, and Luke play baseball. He also enjoyed visiting Florida to watch his granddaughter, Tiffany, play volleyball and compete with her horse in barrel races.  One of the happiest days in their 55 year journey together was on May 19, 1973, when Rusty and Mickey Mayes were married.  Above all, Rusty’s heart found its greatest joy in being the world’s best Dad to his daughters and Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rusty was an active member of the Pack Forest Rifle Team, which later became the Reynolds Road Rifle Team. He found solace in the outdoors, indulging in snowmobiling, hunting, hiking and skiing.  Rusty and Mickey also enjoyed many motorcycle day trips throughout the Adirondacks, Vermont and beyond.  Rusty was well known for his meat-cutting skills and helped many friends and family members.

Rusty has been reunited in heaven with his father Harold, his mother Jane and step-father Jake Combs; his son-in-law Timothy Daniel Everts; brother-in-law Jerry Combs; sister-in-law Sharon, and her husband Adam Good; and his father and mother-in-law George and Winnie Mayes. 

Left to Cherish Rusty’s memory is his treasured wife Mickey Monroe; daughters Michelle Monroe Morton and her husband Bill, Heidi Everts and Stacy Jones, Darcy Monroe-Bates and her husband Dave Bates; grandchildren Jacob Quintal, Noah Morton, Luke Morton, Tiffany Danielle Everts (Tristan Estes), Paige (Jeremy) Buchanan and Jill Jones; great grandchildren Daisy Quintal and Jaxson Buchanan; sister Sue Monroe; sisters-in-law Colleen Combs, Sheila (Ed) Carpenter, Sharie Walerstein and Garnet (John) Neve; Aunt Fay Sherman; special cousin Judy Burch; Rusty’s cats Lacy and Gabby and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Friends are invited to pay their respects to Rusty’s family on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the funeral home. Following the service, burial will take place at Warrensburg Cemetery, Hudson Street, Warrensburg, NY.
