Obituary of Wayne F. Barber

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charlton: Wayne Francis Barber, 72, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 30, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born on March 27, 1944 in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Francis J. “Frank” and Dorothy I. (Hogan) Barber; his family later relocated to New York. Wayne graduated from Springfield College and went on to serve as the Director of Guidance for the Cohoes City School District for 30 years before his retirement. On April 30, 1966, Wayne married the love of his life, Carolyn Nancy Cleveland, at the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg. They shared their love and friendship with each other for over 50 years while raising three children and making a home in the Town of Charlton. Family came before everything for Wayne, as it quickly grew from three children to include a son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He adored spending time will all of them as often as possible, and was always looking forward to the next family gathering or event when they could all be together. Wayne enjoyed playing bridge, being involved in sporting events, wearing baseball caps, and of course, all aspects of golf; whether playing with his son, Michael, other buddies, or watching professional golf on television, he was an avid and enthusiastic participant (and sometimes critic) as well as a 43 year member of the Bell’s Boys Golf League at the Eagle Crest Golf Club. Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn “Lynn” Barber; two sons, Scott Barber, and his wife, Tina, and Michael Barber, and his wife, Lori; a daughter, Robin Boone, and her husband, Peter; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, John, Lyndsey, Daniel, and Grace Barber, and Mollie and Joshua Boone; great-grandson, Liam Daugherty; sisters, Francine Barber and Lorraine Tearno; as well as several nephews and nieces, and many, many friends. He is also survived by Wayne and Lynn’s best friends and next-door neighbors, Annette and Jim Hughes. Friends may call on Wayne’s family, today, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 10 am to 12 noon at the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, 816 State Route 50, Burnt Hills. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 12 noon, at the church, with Pastor Holly Nye, officiating. Burial will take place privately, at the convenience of the family in Warrensburg Cemetery. The family would like to thank the many doctors and medical staff that provided care for Wayne over the past eight months. Donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to the Northeast Kidney Foundation, 501 New Karner Road, Albany NY 12205, or the Foundation website at www.healthykidneys.org.
