Athol: Charles W. Dingman, Sr., 89, of High Street, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 03, 2017 at his home following a long illness. Born March 29, 1928 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Gracie (Ingraham) Dingman. Charlie began working as a young man with his brother, Lloyd, logging and hauling lumber to many local mills. For a brief time, he worked at the Warrensburg Fish Hatchery until he took a job at the Warrensburg Board and Paper Co., where he remained for 22 years until its closure, when he took a job with Finch Pruyn, retiring after 15 years. Above all, Charlie loved family gatherings or simply sitting by a camp fire. He took great pride logging the family farm with his sons and was a talented carpenter. He will be missed by those who loved and cherished him. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Dingman; sons, Charles Dingman, Jr., and Ryan Dingman; son in law, Simeon Hall; siblings, Elizabeth Fish, Joyce Cameron, and Lloyd Dingman. He is survived by his six children: Linda Hall of Warrensburg; Gail Carpenter of Athol, John Dingman of Athol, Debbie Lebrun and her husband, Paul of Glens Falls, Bruce Dingman and his wife, Karen of Athol, Myra Vopleus and her husband, Donald of Athol; his sister, Arlene Watkins and her husband, Fran of Stony Creek. He also leaves behind eight granddaughters, 13 grandsons, several great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. At the family’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 11 am, Thursday, October 5, 2017 in Reynolds Cemetery, Thurman with Rev. William Lucia, officiating. Charlie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bryan Smead and the many caregivers that provided him with excellent care for so many years. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to The American Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
