Lake George: Garry William Grant, 66, of Lake George passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at Glens Falls Hospital following a short illness. Born June 27, 1940, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late William and Helene (Sanders) Grant. A native and lifelong resident of Lake George, Garry began his career as a salesman under the watchful eye of his Uncle Bob Grant at the A & P store in Lake George and progressed to selling cars at Earls Ford for many years. Garry has spent the last 24 years selling cars at Carmen’s Warren Ford in Warrensburg where he served as vice-president and general manager. Garry had a passion for selling cars, whether sitting in the front window at the dealership or around the town; he was doing something he truly loved. Here he received The Society of Professional Sales Counselors Grand Masters Award in 1983, 1984 and 1989 from the Ford Motor Company. His years of community service include 30 years with the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department, serving as President from 1969-1970, 1972-1973, 1978-1982, and 1986-1992. He also received the Phil Wood award in 1984 for outstanding service to the Fire Department and was a member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association and honorary member of the Beacon Engine No. 1 Fire Department. Garry was a founding member of the Benefit Day Committee in 1968, which continued for 20 years, and raised thousands of dollars given anonymously to local families in their time of need. His other associations included the Lake George Youth Commission, Lake George Rotary, Kiwanis Clubs and past President of the Warrensburg Lions Club. He served for several years as President of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce and instrumental in organizing the “Worlds Largest Garage Sale”. Garry was also a member of the Lake George Winter Carnival Committee where he served as past co-chair. Garry leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Linda, whom he married on December 27, 1964; their daughters, Kindra Chamberlin, and husband, Jim of Gansevoort, Kati Sarnowski, and husband, Mike of Scotia, their son, Chip Grant of St. Petersburg, FL; his daughter, Susan Wright and husband, Carl of Gansevoort; and his son, William Grant and wife Karen of Fort Ann; Garry’s shining stars were his grandchildren, Brett, Brendon, Remington, Karli, Jeremiah, Matthew, Daniel and Lauren.
