George B. Studnicky, Jr., 83, formerly of White Water Manor, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek.
Born July 17, 1931 in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late George B. and Mildred (Sullivan) Studnicky.
While residing in New Jersey, George was an active member of the ELKS Club as well as the Knights of Columbus.
He was a graduate of the Oakland Military Academy and the Newark State Teachers College.
George was a true patriot, having enlisted in the United States Marine Corps attaining a rank of Sergeant, proudly serving his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954.
In his youth, George enjoyed playing high school football and eventually played for the USMC as a tackle. He became head coach of the semi-pro Newark Roughriders football team as well as the coach for several little league baseball teams.
He was employed as a teacher in Newark for many years until his retirement. He then began working for the Shop Rite store in Madison, NJ before relocating to the North Country in 1980. He and his wife, Katherine and daughter, Nancy owned and operated the Johnsburg Public Market until 1991, when he joined the Creative Stage Lighting team as the internal auditor until his retirement in 2005.
George was a long time communicant of St. James Catholic Church in North Creek, a past member of the Johnsburg Fire Company and an 18 year member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629.
He thoroughly enjoyed listening to the many piano works of Chopin, as well as vocal music by Mario Lanza and Julie Andrews.
Besides his parents and beloved wife of 57 Years, he is predeceased by his sisters, Mildred “Mimi” Studnicky and Josephine Marsella.
He is survived by his three sons, George B. Studnicky III and his wife, Lily of North Creek, Robert F. Studnicky and his wife, Donna of North Creek; Stephen B. Studnicky and his wife, Julie of North Creek; his two daughters, Nancy E. Studnicky, and Katharine T. Studnicky both of North Creek; eight grandchildren, Laura, Theresa, George IV, Daniel, Robert Jr., Victoria, JT and Dayna; four great grandchildren, Alicia, Emma, Dylan and Bryce; his sisters, Patricia Zihala and her husband, Joseph of Oldsmar, FL; Isabel Zosche and her husband, Wilbur of West Caldwell, NJ; and his brother, Daniel G. Studnicky and his wife, Jacqulyn of Dingmans Ferry, PA; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on George’s family from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Members of the American Legion will conduct a brief service at 7 pm during the visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, Main St., North Creek with Fr. John O’Kane, officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow the Mass and funeral procession at 1:30 pm at Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Johnsburg EMS, or the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Employee Activities Fund.
