Johnsburg: Michael J Merrithew, 60, of Johnsburg passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born December 29,1957 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Robert Merrithew of Minerva and Ingeborg Yantz-Merrithew of Glens Falls. Upon graduating from Warrensburg Central School in 1976, Michael moved to Danbury, Conn. to work for his uncle and his company ELM Tree Service. After leaving Danbury, he travelled throughout the United States. He was considered by many to have a “nomadic soul”. He had a yearning for travel, to experience everything he was able to and to learn as much as he could. Then in 1992, he met his soulmate Sherri Merrithew of Johnsburg where they married on December 4, 2000 and enjoyed 26 happy years together. He had a love for traveling and nature, a passion that never diminished throughout his life. His greatest legacy was his family he created, nurtured and guided. He passed down his wisdom to his children whenever he could. His favorite hobby was woodcarving and learning history. He was often seen bent over in concentration and determination when it came to his projects. He created beautiful carvings that have been enjoyed by many. He had a talent and vision for carpentry and electrical work that he used to build a home for his family and where he and his wife created a family and decades of memories. He was a true family man that cared deeply for his family and close friends. His favorite trips were to Florida where he and family enjoyed the beautiful nature of Cedar Key Fl. and the ocean views of Panama City Beach, Fl. He was predeceased by his uncle, Edward L Merrithew and his grandparents Jess and Anna Merrithew. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Sherri Merrithew and their children; Michelle Merrithew of Glens Falls, Peter Straight and his wife Katie, of North Charleston, SC; Erica Clough and her husband Justin and their children: Abigail and Jackson of Saratoga Springs; also Shannon Cloutier and her husband Bruce of New London, Conn; his sister Heidi Merrithew of Glens Falls; his cousin; Edward Merrithew Jr. and his wife Barbara, their children: Kaylee, Kelsey and Kristi of Sherman, Conn; his uncle John Merrithew and his wife, Sandy of Clifton Park and their daughter, Melanie Merrithew; his aunt Janis Kenyon Merrithew of Warrensburg; his aunt Libby Vallie and her husband, Thomas of Hendersonville, N.C. and their children: Todd Vallie, Anita Watson and her husband David, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
