Obituary of George R. McKinney

Queensbury: George R. McKinney, Sr., 72, of Burch Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Ellis Hospital with loving family at his side. Born April 3, 1942 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Dorothy A. (Combs) McKinney and the late parental guardians, Charles R. McKinney and Elizabeth I. McKinney and grandparents Wilbur McKinney and Florence R. McKinney . George was a caring father and grandfather and never retired. He attended Warrensburg High School and later joined the US Air Force where he specialized as a fuel specialist and a sharp shooter. After his honorable discharge from the air force, he went into business for himself doing drywall and spray foam insulation. George enjoyed several hobbies including, metal detecting, collecting coins, camping, fishing, hunting, and drawing. Each year he looked forward to returning to Corpus Christi, Texas to spend the winters and eventually reside there when he retired. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by an infant son Gary Lee McKinney. He is survived by his children George R. McKinney Jr. (Suzanne), Dawn R. McKinney, Shawn M. McKinney (Bobbi Jo); one sister Marie Kensey; grandchildren Nathan Yingst, Amanda McKinney, Peyton McKinney, Tyler McKinney, Sarah McKinney, Justin McKinney, Sabrena McKinney, and Brennan McKinney. He is also survived by his close cousins in which he was a part of their immediate family, Harold McKinney, Susan McKinney, Michael McKinney, Rose Lomax, and Ellie Wallace as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. George's family would like to extend a special thank you to Edward Weaver and the Ellis Hospital medical team for their quick response, rescue efforts, support, and the wonderful care they provided as well as a special thank you to Harold McKinney and Susan McKinney for your caring, love and support. Friends may call on George’s family from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A memorial service will follow the visitation, at 4 pm, Sunday, at the funeral home with Rev. Nancy Barrow, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will take place privately, at the convenience of the family.
