Obituary of Ernest D. Martindale

Warrensburg:

Ernest D. "Ernie" Martindale, 69, a lifelong resident of Warrensburg, left us on April 3, 2024.

He was born on May 27, 1954 to the late Howard and Ann Martindale.

Ernie was out of school at a young age and joined the Marines in 1974. That was short lived, he found out that he was allergic to bees and sent home before he could finish basic training. Ernie came home, got a job and started a family. He spent many years at R. J. Sweet sawmill, divorced, remarried, started another family, moved to Georgia, made more kids, got divorced again, went back to the sawmill, and retired to become a icon in the bars of Warrensburg. He didn’t get to see his children as much as he would have liked but, he left his children a legacy of love. 

Survivors include his six children with thirteen grandchildren, Jamie (Dana) Martindale, Kristin Irish, Scott Killon, Jessica Martindale, Ernest (Tanya) Martindale Jr., Brittany (Justin) Garrow.  Three brothers, Howard (Amanda) Martindale, Michael Martindale, Rick (Annie) Martindale. Four sisters, Lois (Seth) Dunkley, Cathy (Rick) Graves, Debbie (Ed) Aldous, and Ann Woodard, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

(From what I hear, Ernie was the favorite of at least 3 of his 7 siblings.) 

He was predeceased by his parents and his nephew, Michael.   

Everyone had a different name for Ernie and Ernie had one for everyone too; “Pete” “Bone”  my nickname was Cricket or Kris, depending on the day. I also had an Aunt Gurt, Aunt Nig and an Aunt Fuzzy…

Ernie had a big personality that could bring out the best in anyone, he was a charmer.  He had the biggest heart and anyone that crossed his path knew it. Ernie spent a good majority of his life around Warrensburg making friends. There isn’t a person that spent any time in Ashe’s that didn’t know who he is.  

At Ernie’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.  

Meet us at Ashe’s bar Saturday April 13 at 6 to raise a glass for a local legend.
