Obituary of Joan P. Reynolds
JOHNSBURG: Joan P. Reynolds (Prouty), 83 years old from Johnsburg, NY went home to the Lord on April 3, 2024 at Albany Medical Center.
Joan came into this world on January 26, 1941, to the late Mark and Mildred (Morehouse) Prouty. After graduating from Johnsburg Central School in 1958, she pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh, completing in 1962. Joan began her career teaching home economics and math at Brant Lake School. However, upon starting a family, she transitioned to being a full-time stay-at-home mom. Later, Joan returned to the workforce as the postal clerk at Johnsburg Post Office. In 1979, she assumed the role of Postmaster until her retirement.
Joan married the love of her life, Leo Reynolds, on August 10, 1962, and they were set to celebrate their 62nd anniversary this August. She played a pivotal role as a founding board member of the Hudson Headwaters Health Network and was actively involved as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Postmaster’s Association. Joan’s unwavering faith led her to remain a lifelong parishioner at the Johnsburg Methodist Church, where she even assumed the role of Lay Person.
Joan had a deep passion for baking, particularly pies, cakes, and cookies, and delighted in handpicking fruits to craft delicious jams and jellies. Her leisure moments were often spent knitting, yet upon retirement, her newfound joy lay in genealogy, which soon became her fulltime pursuit. Joan’s warm hospitality made everyone feel at home in her presence, and her absence will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Besides her parents, Joan was welcomed into heaven by her grandson Maxwell Engel.
Left to cherish Joan’s memory is her beloved husband, Leo Reynolds; children Jay (Melissa) Reynolds and Abby (Greg) Engel; grandchildren Mahra (Bryan) Davidson, Christopher Colvin, Conner Engel and Brody Engel; great granddaughter Maisie Davidson; brothers Leon (Susan) Prouty and Bruce (companion Helen) Prouty; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
