Obituary of James D. Eggleston

QUEENSBURY: James Douglas Eggleston a lifelong resident of Queensbury, passed away peacefully with his loving wife Sharon by his side March 1^st, 2024. He endured a brave battle with Neuroendocrine cancer for 5 years.

James, fondly known as Jim was born on May 16^th, 1956 to Betty (Crannell) and Harold Eggleston.   Jim was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, Forrest and Gertrude Crannell, Cyrial and Elsie Eggleston, his brother Richard Eggleston, Aunt Jane and her husband Edward Griffin, Aunt Marie Crannell, Cousin Terri Crannell and his beloved Chow Chows Chaz, Momo, and HeiShe.

He is survived by his wife Sharon who was his best friend for life and recently his full-time nurse who provided the best care for him.  He is also survived by his Chow Katie, his nephew Jeffrey Scarincio and his wife Diana, Sandy and Don Kruger (sister), Sue Eggleston (sister), Sister-in-law Barb Eggleston, Cousin Jackie and Dave Coon, Cousin Carson and Mariann Griffin, and his sister-in-law families Tina and Fred Keech, Brenda and Robert Hilton, Bonnie and Calvin Varnum, Connie and Terry Howk, Lisa and Michael Caivano, his Uncle Jack Crannell, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

After graduating Queensbury HS in 1975.  Jim was a member of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and retired in 2012 to spend time with family and travel with his wife. They enjoyed many wonderful trips to Bermuda, Hawaii, Australia, Panama, Bahamas, Washington DC, Jamacia, Mexico, San Francisco, and multiple trips to Florida. Jim cherished travel and was so grateful with each adventure he took.  When he wasn’t traveling, you would find Jim working diligently in his yard, listening constantly to his library of all genres of music including his favorite Jimmy Hendrix, and his spending time with the most loved dog in the world, his Chow Katie.  Jim often referenced Katie as a deployed “angel” that came into his life to help support him through his cancer journey. She never left his side and became a certified service dog, accompanying Jim and Sharon on all their daily adventures.

In his younger days, you would often find Jim riding his motorcycle or his dirt bikes. Prior to his illness, he was an avid cyclist, sometimes cycling 25 miles a day. His other interest was in electronics, gadgets, technology, computers, and any automatic gizmo he could find to install in his house.  A true “tech head” his family and friends relied on him for his suggestions and assistance. He was also known to love cars (the faster the better) his appetite and critique for Italian food, and his love for very colorful sneakers.

Jim will be sadly missed by his “rock” Sharon and many family members and close friends.  In his honor, the family is requesting any donations go to any dog rescue of their choice. His family would like to thank the wonderful care he received from Dana Farber, Sloan Kettering, and Roswell Park /Ellis hospital.  His appreciation was very sincere for Dr. Tallat Mahmood and PA Alyssa Aragosa. Their compassion and care for Jim was outstanding.

Friends may call on Jim’s family from 4:00pm – 7:00pm, Thursday, March 7, 2024.  At Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, 11:00am at Lake George Community Methodist Church, 78 Montcalm St., Lake George. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Birch Ave., Lake George.
