Stella and Family, So very saddened to hear of Vic's passing. Always found Vic to be such a kind and gentle man; enjoyed dealing with both of you. Thinking of you and your Family at this time. Kevin Spellacy (formerly of Hill Electric)

Talk about just a good human being! My wife and I first started coming to Thirteenth Lake and its environs in the mid-to-late 1970s, both in the summer with our canoe and to hike and in the winter for cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. We encountered “Ranger Vic” several times over those years and into the 1980s. A very helpful Forest Ranger full of knowledge and always looking out for and caring for those of us who cherished the environment that we came to enjoy in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness, cautioning us about conditions and making sure we were prepared. He schooled me on the drifts, swirls and deeper pockets for the browns and salmon in Thirteenth Lake and about the hatches – the hexagenia in June! When we bought our patch of the forest in 1985 just up the road from Vic and Stella, he was still rangering and still caring about those of us who enjoyed the Adirondacks. He gave us advice when we started our excavation for our place. Even after his retirement, I would visit his shop and marvel at his knowledge. His shop was a wonderland for those of us who fly fish. One could listen for hours to his stories and the expertise that flowed from him. And not just about fishing. He was passionate about the environment and protecting it. I was a senior in college when Harper’s Magazine enlisted me to help spread the word about the very first Earth Day in 1970. I remember visiting Vic at his shop sometime in the 1990s after he retired and finding out that he was a driving force here in the region for rallying people to participate in that original Earth Day in 1970. I had a kindred spirit connection! Gonna miss Vic and that smile of his, with deep halfmoons turned into both sides of his mouth. He versed his love for and dedication to his family, was a scholar and fountain of knowledge, a kind human, a gentleman, a mentor, a protector of the earth. Not many like him in today’s world of divisiveness. Like I said, Vic was cut from the cloth of goodness. He touched a whole lotta people and made the world a better place. A good man. A good man. Much, much sympathy to Stella and his family. – Ed Collins, 13th Lake Rd.
