Obituary of Sharon Ann Sullivan
Lake George:
Sharon Ann Sullivan, age 73, passed away Monday, December 4th, 2023 at her home. A longtime resident of Lake George, NY, she was surrounded by family in her final days.
Sharon, or Sam as she was known by her immediate family, was born in Cooperstown, NY to Shirley and the late John Leonard of Cherry Valley. The first born child, Sharon grew up helping operate the family business of dairy farming.
Upon graduating from Cherry Valley High School, Sharon attended SUNY Oswego obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
After college, Sharon spent the summer in Lake George where she meet her former husband Hugh James Sullivan. They owned and operated ooO'Sullivan's Motel for over 20 years, simultaneously raising their four children. Once again, she was involved in a successful family business, this time in hospitality.
Her love of gardening led her to the Fort William Henry Resort, where she spent a decade perfecting their landscapes. She was always recognizable in her trademark wide brimmed gardening hat and welcoming smile.
Even in her retirement, Sharon's incredible work ethic continued to shine as she cultivated her many passions. She spent years volunteering at the Caldwell Library restoring books. She also spent time gardening in her backyard and at her children's homes.
The lights of her life were her grandchildren, Norah, Johnny and Annie. Initially known as Grammy Sammy, then as Mimi, Sharon loved spending time with this next generation. Enhancing their lives through her hobby of sewing, handcrafting many dresses, blankets and pillows for them. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren passing on her love of reading, playing and laughing. From Play-Doh, to rice tables, and tea parties, precious memories were formed. These moments brought joy to everyone.
Sharon is survived by her mother Shirley, siblings Steven (Marilyn), Charles (Ann), Mary (Joseph), John (Sue), and Mark (Sandy). Her children John (Katie), Joseph (Casie), Carolyn (Ben), and Paul (Jennifer). Along with her grandchildren Norah, Johnny, and Annie. She also leaves behind a large group of extended family and loyal friends.
