Obituary of David F. Peters

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

GREENVILLE, NC: On October 8, 2023, David F. Peters, 75, formerly of Warrensburg, NY, peacefully passed away after a long illness, with his wife Joan by his side at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

David came into this world on July 2, 1948, in Glens Falls, NY, as the son of the late William and Marjorie (Schrader) Peters.  His education started at Warrensburg Central School, where he proudly graduated in 1966.  Following graduation, he pursued higher education at DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL, earning his electronics Degree in 1969.  This valuable qualification opened doors for him in Fort Worth, TX, where he contributed his skills and expertise to General Dynamics, specializing in the development of F-16 control panels.

Upon his return to Warrensburg, David explored various career opportunities with different companies until he discovered his most cherished position at F.W. Webb in Glens Falls. He devoted more than a decade to this job before eventually retiring.

In 1973, David became a dedicated member of the Warrensburg Fire Company, where he selflessly dedicated his time and skills.  He excelled as a fireman and pump operator for an impressive 18 years.  In addition to his frontline duties, David assumed leadership roles within the organization.  He served on the Board of Directors for three years, held the position of Vice President for two years, and served as President for another two years.  His fellow firefighters affectionately bestowed upon him the nickname “Prickly Pete” due to his distinctive dry sense of humor.

In David’s early years, he had the pleasure of owning two horses, which brought him immense joy.  These cherished companions not only enriched his childhood but also played a role in his initial job experience, as he delivered the Post Star twice a day while on horseback.  David also had a deep affection for spending time at Hampton Beach and enjoying camping adventures.  However, one of his most cherished pastimes was his weekly gathering with friends for lively pinochle card games.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Joan (Maers) Peters; daughters Deanne Peters and Deidre (Scott) Washburn and their mother Debbie (Pratt) Peters; step-daughter Heather (Chris) Miller and their son Kaiden Miller; step-sons Josh Reichel and Sean Reichel; brother Robert (Joyce) Peters; sister-in-law Nancy Maers and her grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

If you would like to make a donation in memory of David, you can contribute to the Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 371, Warrensburg, NY 12885
