My Father-in- Law, Ken Hammond was a good man...one of the best. When I first started to date Tom, Ken made me feel welcome right away. He quickly told me a story about how he rode the subway in New York City once when he was with his Army buddies and they got lost.
Ken told a lot of stories. I loved hearing them, even more than once. Ken's stories usually told of his courage, his grit, his resourcefulness, his kindness and his loyalty. I was blessed to benefit from all of those wonderful traits. Ken's love of family was fierce. He was so proud of each of his children, his nieces & nephews, and his grandchildren. When he spoke of each of them the pride was obvious you could hear it in his voice.
Ken loved any kind of joke; a good one, a corny one, even a little blue one and often just a bad one. His playfulness was most evident when with his grandchildren.
Ken was a good friend, a great hunter/trapper. He was loyal, helpful, kind, funny, brave and smart. I was blessed to know and love him. I will miss him dearly.
May he rest in peace.

I will remember all the times Ken came to caretaker the church property next to my house in Noerth Creek. We would talk about the upcoming family reunion and he would tell me stories about the older generation that I had never met. In a way he was a living history of the family. I'm so glad we had those talks so he could hand down those stories to the next generation. I will miss our talks Ken. You were already an angel, now you just have your wings.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Ken could most always be counted on to attend the GrandUnion/Tops social functions with Sharon. He always had a smile and a good word. Sarge and Ken never had a problem carrying on a conversation.:)

One of my most recent memory of Uncle Kenny was when he was trying to find water for Scott and I with witching rods. Up the road from his house was property for sale that we were interested in. When he walked the property Uncle Kenny had those witching rods in his hands. His hands started shaking and then the rods pointed to the ground. He said right there is your water. I guess he did this many of times and the rods worked. I knew he was truly acclimated to those woods because he had a big mosquito on his forehead for a good long minute without him ever flinching. I remember the first time we met. I was your sister, my cousin, nurse and I question the picture on her room wall. It was my great-great Aunt Rose. Ken was a great man! He is loved very much! My greatest memory of him is how much he loved all the grandchildren! He had special nicknames for my girls Paige and Emily!!
