Obituary of Robert F. McDermott
Chestertown:
Robert McDermott died at 76 in his beloved Adirondacks. Bob graduated from Brooklyn Tech and City College, and went on to be a teacher of Psychology at Lehman High School in the Bronx for 30 years. He was a legend in the classroom who touched the lives of hundreds. In retirement, with his loving wife, Linda Zila, he hiked and travelled to the far corners of the world.
Bob was a member of North Country Arts (NCA) and actively participated in galleries in Chestertown and Glens Falls. He and Linda exhibited photos together at the Town of Chester Library, Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek, and other local spaces.
Ever interested in other cultures and the natural world, Bob journeyed to all seven continents and enjoyed photographing both people and animals in their natural environment. The culmination of his travels was a World Cruise, 111 days, January to April 2023. He found inspiration for photography everywhere but always favored North America and the Adirondacks as the most spectacular and special of all.
Bob is survived by his wife Linda, stepson Jesse Stormo, his wife Erin, grandsons River, Shane, and Ivan, and stepson Evan Stormo. Much beloved by his sister Maureen and her husband Nicholas Bianco. He was Uncle Robert to niece Shannon and husband Matt Myers, their two girls, Lorelai and Emaline, and to nephew Jared Bianco and his children Madison, Jackson, and Jameson. He was also loved by many cousins, Linda’s three sisters and their families, and long-time friends.
Friends may call on Bob’s family from 2 to 5 pm, Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
