Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warrensburg: Anna D. VanGuilder, 69, of Karen Street, passed away, Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Glens Falls Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 12, 1947 in Bolton Landing, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Geraldine (Frasier) Barrett. Anna attended Lake George High School. She was a Teacher’s Assistant at Warrensburg Elementary School for over 22 years, where she formed a special, personal bond with every child that passed through her classroom. Anna always went out of her way to make their learning experience enjoyable, all while setting high expectations and making sure they achieved their goals; never giving up on any child. Anna enjoyed spending her summers, relaxing by her pool, and caring for her flowers, with her son. She was a supportive wife, mother, and friend, who spent countless hours waiting up for her family to arrive home with race results. Besides her parents, Anna was predeceased by her siblings, Wanda Barrett, Earl “Pete” Barrett Jr., Leo Barrett, Suzanne Williams, Clark Barrett, and Wendy Prosser. She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Donald W. VanGuilder of Warrensburg; two daughters, Debbie Persons and her husband, Ted, of Bolton Landing, and Dawn Frechette and her husband, John, of St. Johnsbury, VT; a son, Donny VanGuilder of Warrensburg; three sisters, Goldia Whiting and her husband, Al, of Glens Falls, Betty Ostrander and her husband, Mark, of Glens Falls, and Kim McEachron and her husband, John, of Saratoga Springs; seven brothers, Gary Barrett and his wife, Marytene, of Warrensburg, Michael Barrett and his wife, Gail, of Hudson Falls, Alden Barrett of Hudson Falls, James Barrett and his companion, Kathi, of Edgewater Fla., Tony Barrett and his wife, Kim, of Gansevoort, Doug Barrett and his companion, Karen, of Geneva, and Mark Barrett and his wife, Michelle, of South Glens Falls; five grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Persons, and Marianna, Gwen, and Max Frechette; and her furry four-legged companions, Toby and Bruiser. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Anna’s family from 3 to 5 pm, Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 5 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Edward Suffern, Pastor of the REDEEMER Reformed Presbyterian Church, in Queensbury, officiating. Burial will take place privately, at the convenience of the family in Chester Rural Cemetery. Anna’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Stoutenburg, Dr. Lauren, and Rodney, Carol, and the staff at the Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital for the exceptional care they provided. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Anna’s memory to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
