It is with great sorrow that I learn of Mr. Searles death. I have several memories of him and Muriel from my few years at Chestertown High School and visits to the area after joining the Marine Corps in 1970. Although my travels and occasional visits to Chestertown didn't allow enough time with Mr. Searles, I vividly remember the precious times we were together and after reading his accomplishments, I see we had much in common together. His service in Korea, time at Plattsburgh and participation in sports gave us plenty to talk about and I will forever miss just seeing him, although it's been many years since I've enjoyed his company. He is indeed one of my mentors who influenced me as I grew up and always encouraged me to tackle life as it came at me and overcome the challenges he knew were before me. I cherished his friendship and the support he always rendered to my mother and father. We all would be better off if we had more of the character and kindness of Jim Searles in our manner. May God rest his soul and reward him for a life well lived.
