I first met Rusty at a little known bluegrass festival in 2008 in Greenville NY. Our band had come from Ontario to play at our very first festival in the USA. A storm rolled through during our set. The power went out, and along with it, the sound system. We jumped off the stage and finished our set under the tent. Rusty came up to me after our set, introduced himself, and hired us on the spot for the Upper Hudson Bluegrass festival the following year. Over the following years we became friends, as he continued to hire us back. He and Janie were the most gracious and friendly hosts. He took great delight in mixing us Manhattans! I will forever cherish wonderful memories of Rusty and the Upper Hudson Bluegrass Festival. Rest well, Rusty! Karen May, formerly of HoneyGrass band.

I am so very sorry to hear of Rusty’s passing. He was a great neighbor and friend for many years. We shared many laughs together and he will always be remembered fondly in my heart. My most sincere prayers and condolences go out to all of Rusty’s family in this time of mourning.
