Obituary of Jean R. Bateman

Johnsburg: Jean Marie (Richards) Bateman, 90, of Garnet Lake Rd., passed away peacefully Monday, October 2, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born August 30, 1927 in Riverside, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Mary “Frances” (Ingraham) Richards. She married Clarence “Bud” Bertran Bateman on his 21st birthday, December 12, 1947. For many years, Jean was a cook at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for over 20 years. She was a “one of a kind” woman who was loved and respected by all, but walked on by none. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as well as playing games on her computer and keeping in touch with friends on Facebook. She was affectionately known by Garnet Lake locals as mom or grandma. Besides her parents and beloved husband of 65 years, Jean is predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Richards, brothers, Jack, Thomas, and Allen Richards, a young grandson, Jeffery Bardin, and her trusted side-kick and departed dog, Rover. She leaves behind nine children, Clarence “Butch” Bateman and his wife, Jean, of Johnsburg, Barbara O’Dell and her husband, Marvin “Pinky”, of Johnsburg, Catherine Fredella of the Endicott/Binghamton area, Coral Bardin and her husband, Bruce, of Hudson Falls, Peggy LaRock of Queensbury, David Bateman and his wife, Lisa, of Garnet Lake, Helen Murphy and her husband, Kenneth, of Chestertown, James Bateman of Johnsburg, and her exceptional caregiver, Joseph Bateman, also of Johnsburg, her sister, Wilma Strohmeyer of Falls, brothers, Ronald Richards and his wife, Virginia of CA and James Richards and his wife, Patricia of Kingston; sisters-in-law, Parma Richards, widow of Jack and Mary Ann Richards, widow of Allen; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and foster children. Friends may call on Jean’s family from 11 am to 1 pm Friday, October 6, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 1 pm Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Ronald Allen, Pastor of the Sodom Community Church, officiating.
