Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Carol?
A: She was smart sharp and savvy! I am beyond proud to have been her daughter in law since 1971! A girl couldn’t ask for a better mother-in-law in the world ever! She always treated me like I was her daughter and always called me. Her number one daughter-in-law. That sort of an inside joke because she loved us all. !

I get to know Carol as my son Jeremiah used to go biking with Lance, and then through the One-Eye Classic. We loved corresponding with her - her humor and cute drawings. I would address the envelope with The Olmstead Empress, and she mine with Hon. Alvin Reiner, Mayor - New Russia. I just got done listening to "The Pottersville Complainer". RIP, Empress.

Carole was a treasured founder and long-time member of the Academy for Lifelong Learning, sponsored by Empire State College in Saratoga Springs. Weather as an inspiring study group leader, dedicated committee member or favorite storyteller, Carol was always there to contribute her talent, enthusiasm and sparkling fun personality. She was a valued friend to all and will be long remembered and missed with affection.

Mrs. Gregson was one of the most creative people I ever met--with all of her warmth and joy of life, she was a comfort when I was a kid hanging out with Lance, and an inspiration as we grew together. My heartfelt condolences to all of the family.

Carol Gregson enriched the lives of everyone she encountered with a charming humor that contained secret lessons. The lesson we learned from her while still in primary school was that life is a treasure hunt...she designed the best that ever were in the thick woods behind her house. What then seemed just hysterical fun now reveals itself as the way to deal with the intricacies of life: ‘life may be hard, but there are always treasures to be found’--a message that inspired her delightful descriptions of Adirondack customs. The memories she left behind will always bring joy to our hearts.

Grandma it sure was nice to know you. You accepted me right into the family without a second thought. Having my stocking ready that first Christmas. I will always treasure the days of drinking tea and learning to make your gingerbread cookies. (now a family tradition passed on to my children.) Your encouragement of my artistic endeavors and the way you wove words into vivid images. Until we meet again.

As one of her dinner companions, I only had the pleasure of knowing Carol for a brief amount of time. However, it was a joy to listen to her stories about moving to Texas then back to the NW, meeting her husband, moving to the ADK, raising a large family, becoming an art teacher later in life, and bragging about her children. She enjoyed car rides and picnics in Lake George, as well as to any ice cream shop! Prayers to her family as you celebrate her wonderful life! May you all be blessed with memories of laughter, creativity and love.

Carol was, is, and always shall be one of my all-time favorite people. Although she "wasn't from around here", she was an Adirondacker Waiting To Happen from the day she was born! I spent many enjoyable days sharing tables with her at book fairs and reading her hilarious books. The signed copies of "Wet Socks" and "Leaky Boots" in my personal library are among my most prized literary possessions. Her presence will endure in Adirondack lore and legend for all time, and when it's my turn to pass, I hope she is among the short list of family and friends waiting to greet me- wherever that place may be. See you later Carol!

I am proud to have known this amazing woman as a friend and colleague. During my years in Glens Falls, we often met at the Shirt Factory, home to many artists such as Carol. Condolences to her wonderful family, fondly remembered from my years in Olmstedville and Johnsburg, where we taught school together. I also have great memories of going kayaking with Carol!

I’m sad to see Carol’s obit in today’s paper. I’ve had over 60-years tangential contact with her and family beginning early 60’s going to den meetings at the pond house in Pack Forest. I’ve seen her creative spark reflected in her children. The rustic furniture store, the masonry work in Schroon Lake Park, jamming in the 70’s at Melody Manor. And of course the red “sky-hook” in Olmstedville. Both of her books are on my shelf. Rest easy Carol, it has been good to know you.

As my art teacher she wa a joy to learn from. She had a way of bringing out your talent by making you think about your art. Mrs. Grayson had a wicked sense of humor and a light heart. She is a true loss to this world and her family. She will be missed but I will cherish my memories of her.
