James Arthur “OJ” Vonderheide, owner of OJ’s TV & Appliance, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born September 8, 1939, James proudly served in the United States Air Force. He met and married his former wife, Terry in Chicago. When their first born was a year old they decided to move to an area where they could raise a family in a wholesome environment. James had spent time in Chestertown, NY as a young adult and loved the area. In 1971 they made Chestertown their home. In 1974 OJ opened his business in Warrensburg, later moving it to Chestertown. He was a pillar of the community known for his honesty, generosity and fairness. He repaired TV’s, and appliances in many homes throughout the area. Everyone knew they could count on him.
James was an active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. He was often seen having breakfast at Bill’s Diner after Mass with his good friend Fr. Paul Cox and others.
He is survived by his children: Jennifer Ann, Jeannette Alene, Jeff Andrew; his granddaughter Allaura Skye; and his companion Kathy.
No calling hours are scheduled. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg with Fr. Paul Cox and Fr. John O’Kane, officiating.
