Obituary of Richard A. Turner

Lake George: Richard Aloysius Turner, Sr. of Lake George, NY, formerly of Cornwall and Garnerville, New York, died peacefully on July 26, 2021, in the company of his loving family. Born on January 18, 1933, in New York City, he grew up in the Inwood section of Manhattan. The son of the late Frederick and Loretta (Feeney) Turner. He married his loving wife Anna Marie (Twomey) Turner, on January 18, 1958, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Manhattan. Anna preceded him in death on October 14, 2008. Richard lived for 35 years in Garnerville, New York where he and Anna raised their three children. He was employed by the New York City Transit Authority starting as a bus operator and retiring in 1995 as Superintendent of Depot Operations. A plaque given to him on his retirement reads – To a soft-spoken man who, by his honesty, sincerity, care, and compassion, touched us every day, making him truly second to none. His words may have been few, but his smile will forever echo the halls of the 126th Street Depot. He enjoyed all that life offered, especially the world travel he did for many years with Anna while in retirement. He was loved and adored by his grandchildren: Marc, Caitlin, Jillian, Julie & Jenna. He was additional blessed with two great grandchildren, Presley and Ryder who affectionally called him “GPP” Grand Pop-Pop. His journey in life was rooted firmly in his Christian faith and the promise in the Gospel of John 3:16. For God so loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Undeniably, Richard has. Richard is survived by his son, Richard Jr. and wife, Ann of Boyce, Virginia; daughters, Nancy Barrett and husband, Kevin of Lake George, New York and Susan Wanstall and husband, Frank of North Stonington, Connecticut.
