Obituary of Frank A. Smith

Frank A. Smith, 95, a long-time resident of Hudson Falls, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020, in the loving and compassionate care of the Fort Hudson S-Wing staff. Born on February 2, 1925, Frank was the son of the late Frank and Mary Smith of Strykersville, NY and was predeceased by his two brothers, Clarence & Edward Smith, and grandson, Kristian Lawler. Survived by his wife, Louise Smith, the two married On October 31, 1944, beginning a marriage that would span over 75 years. Besides his wife, Frank is survived by their children, Frank E (and Mary) Smith, Dale (and Louise) Smith, both of Zephyrhills, FL, David (and Bonny) Smith of Hartford, and Becky Lawler of Warrensburg. Grandchildren include Justin, Shannon, Franklynn, Dustin, Denver, Thomas, Jillian, Jonathan and Krystle, and great-grandchildren Marion, Brandon, Gavin, Addison, Lily, Benjamin and Ethan. He is also survived by five siblings: Susan, Mary, Ellsworth, Carl and David, as well as several nieces and nephews. Frank lived a Christian-centered, family life, instilling these values in his children. He was a WWII veteran who proudly served in the US Coast Guard at Normandy. Additionally, Frank was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls and was an active member of the Free & Accepted Masons for over 60 years. As his family, we wish to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Fort Hudson S-Wing, and a very special thanks to Frank’s “buddy”, Amanda. Gratitude for such loving kindness and compassion as was bestowed to our Dad from this special group of individuals is simply impossible to put into words. Internment services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
