I first met Sonja in 1985 working at the Ryefield. She had an impish smile and a laugh like no other . That never changed. She was a day of sunshine throughout her life and an inspiration during her battle. Her spirit and generosity were admirable, always wanting to help others. I was so sorry to hear of Sonja's passing through her friends and family on Facebook. I knew Sonja when I washed dishes at the Ryefield—my very first job, from summer 2005 - summer 2007.
My fondest memories of my time there revolve around her. Not being old enough to drive yet, I'd call home for a ride when my shift was over and wait the 15 or 20 minutes at the bar with Sonja, other staff, and her many friends—like Marianne and the late Jimmy Glasko. Sonja would pour me a Diet Pepsi and always make me feel welcome among the "grown ups" as we played "name that tune" once customers had left and she'd switched the satellite radio to the 80s station. It was such a joyful part of each summer day.
Her warm, kind, caring spirit was evident in all she did. The beautiful tribute that mentioned her baking reminded me of another Sonja memory I'd forgotten: two summers in a row, she took a special request and made a Ryefield cheesecake for my mom's birthday.
Though I hadn't seen her in years, she will be missed. My deepest sympathies to the many, many people who love her and always will.

I’m saddened to hear the loss of your mother. Although I did not personally know her I knew the next best thing and that my dear is you.
When we worked together at Stewart’s I got to know a very genuine person. You stand out with your positive attitude. You are such a hard worker.
