Frederick I. Hayes, 82, formerly of Warrensburg, passed away, Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville following a long illness.
Born June 27, 1926 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Herbert and Marjorie (Ingraham) Hayes and was raised in the Town of Thurman.
He began his working years, logging with George Mosher. He went on to work with the Thurman and Warren Co. Highway Departments before serving his country in the US Army Air Corp. in the South Pacific during WW II.
Upon returning home from military service, Fred continued employment with Warren County and various construction companies before retiring in 1983, after 33 years as a mechanic with NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years and was a longtime member of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Beverly and his second wife, Selina; three daughters, Cheryl, Marjorie and Vanessa.
Survivors include his step children, David LaPell and his wife, Jacqueline of Mayfield, Ali Wasson of Oregon, Cindy Guay of Long Lake; step grandchildren, Susie, Barbie, BJ, Charlena, Jiselle, David and Mindi; step great grandchild, Brandon.
Friends may call on Fred’s family from 5-7 pm Friday evening, Nov. 14 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7 pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Bates officiating.
Burial will be in the Warrensburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
