Obituary of Emily S. Reynolds Martin

Thurman Mrs. Emily Sceurman Reynolds Martin, 83, of Stony Creek Rd., passed away, Saturday, December 23, 2006 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 8, 1923, on the Reynolds family farm in Thurman, she was the daughter of the late Rexford C. and Emily C. Sceurman Reynolds Sr. Mrs. Martin was a 1940 graduate of Warrensburg Central School and a 1944 graduate from Columbia Hospital Nursing School in Hudson, NY Emily was a US Army veteran who enlisted in 1944 and served as a nurse during WWII, she was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in 1945. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Saratoga, Glens Falls and Corinth Hospitals. Mrs. Martin was an elder and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg. Emily married Frederick J. Martin, Jr. on August 24, 1947; he died on November 13, 2004 after 57 years of marriage. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Miriam Reynolds Quackenbush. Mrs. Martin is survived by her children, Gary R. Martin and his wife, Wini, Susan M. Jennings and her husband, Giles, Stephen A. Martin and his wife, Virginia; her grandchildren, Caleb S. Martin and Brianne Hazelton, James C. Martin, Peter M. Jordan and his wife, Catherine, Katie M. Jordan, Bethy M. Jordan and Stephen R. Martin; great-grandchildren, Tessie and Frederick Jordan; sisters, Florence Pennock and Ruth Nevin; a brother, Rexford C. Reynolds, Jr.; a brother-in-law, David Martin; her faithful dog, Meg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Warrensburg First Presbyterian Church, Stewart Farrar St., Warrensburg. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Reynolds Cemetery at a later date.
