Obituary of Kenneth E. Ackley
Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thurman:
Kenneth E. Ackley, 73, of Bowen Hill Road passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at his home, following a lengthy illness, with his loving wife by his side.
Born April 28, 1941 in Schuylerville, he was the son of the late Lee and Daisy (Cleveland) Ackley.
Known to many as “Grizz” or Uncle Ken, he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas. After ten years of service, he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, specializing in aircraft airframe repair.
Ken went on to notably work for Boeing, on the first production 747 in Seattle, Washington. He will be remembered locally as a bartender at several area establishments and as a truck driver for many years.
Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by all eight of his siblings, and a son, Kenneth L. Ackley.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Christina C. Ackley of Thurman; two children, Steven A. Ackley and Anna West, and her husband, Ron, all of Wichita, Kansas. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
At Ken’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services scheduled.
Ken’s family would like to thank Daryl Tucker for the many hours he spent caring for Ken, Bobby Cleveland for all his help throughout the past few months, and the nurses and staff at High Peaks Hospice for their guidance and compassion.
“We know Ken drove that 18 wheeler straight to heaven to get the bar open for all, and in his spare time he’ll be rooting for the Yankees along with his best bud, Pa Sherman.”
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Ken’s memory to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
