Obituary of Wanda M. Scanlon

Brant Lake: Wanda Marie (Morehouse) Scanlon, 80, formerly of Tannery Road, Brant Lake passed away peacefully at the Granville Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Monday April 23, 2018. Wanda was the oldest of eleven children of the late Cora Monroe Morehouse and Orin Morehouse of Brant Lake. The wife of the late Jay Gordon Scanlon, the mother of Gail Marie Scanlon Weir, of Lexington Kentucky and Donna Jean Scanlon Stowell, of Franklin, TN. She was the grandmother of Rebecca Gail Weir, Kenton David Weir, Jennifer Erin Stowell, Dustin James Stowell, and Kayla Marie Stowell. She was also “Mother” to her beloved poodle named Buddy. Wanda was born and raised in Brant Lake, N.Y. but did spend many years in south Florida after her marriage. She achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse at the age of 38 after raising her children. She graduated from Glens Falls Hospital Practical Nursing School. Wanda practiced her chosen profession for 24 years both in South Florida and New York. She returned to Brant Lake in 1994, after her husband’s passing to spend the rest of her life in the village of her birth and childhood. Besides her parents, Wanda is predeceased by two siblings, Mary Cavanaugh and Rick Morehouse. Wanda is also survived by four brothers, Edward, Ronald, Douglas, and Gerald Morehouse and four sisters, Helen McCarty, Jean Ward, Pat Eastman (Fish), and Nancy Hayes along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wanda was loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Friends may call on Wanda’s family from 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 10 am, Friday, at the Warrensburg Assembly of God, 3990 Main St., Warrensburg with Rev. Ronald Parisi, officiating. Burial will follow in Brant Lake Cemetery next to her beloved parents and husband. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guest book and condolences.
