Shirley A. Fisher, 93, of River Street, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, July 23, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness.
Born July 4, 1923 in Warrensburg, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Cordelia (McElroy) Rice.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of the area and married Robert C. Fisher on September 20, 1942. The couple enjoyed 52 blissful years together before his passing on February 2, 1995.
Shirley graduated from Warrensburg Central School, 1941, and attended the Austin School of Beauty in Albany. She owned a beauty parlor for several years during the War, until the birth of her second child. Shirley worked as a bank teller for 23 years at the Emerson National Bank, which became the Bank of America before she retired.
In her retirement, she devoted her talents to quilting and needlework, and delighted many with her beautiful creations. She donated her quilts to the Church summer auction for many years.
Shirley was a life-long communicant of the Church of the Holy Cross, Warrensburg, where she was an active member of the choir for decades, and served as directress of the Altar Guild for many years, as well as treasurer of the Women’s Club and Altar Guild until her passing.
Besides her parents and beloved husband, Robert, she is predeceased by her sisters, Joyce Rice and Lenore Smith, and step-sister, Norma Turpin.
Shirley leaves behind her son, Robert A. Fisher and his and his wife, Martha of Delhi, her daughter, Susan Miller and her fiancé, James Hull, of Warrensburg; grandchildren: Phoebe Whitman and her husband, Timothy, of Oneonta, Gillian Fisher of Brooklyn, Melissa Mathurin and her husband, Matthew of St. Clair, MI, Casey Miller and his fiancée, Dominique Bisignano of Queensbury, Courtland Miller and his wife, Summer, of San Diego, CA, and Jade Esberg and her husband, John of Oswego; great-grandchildren: Rachelle and Hanna Whitman, Ayden Miller, John V. and Nickolas Esberg; step sister, Marie H. Fisher of Stony Creek, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Shirley’s family from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon, Friday, at Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg, with Father Thomas Pettigrew, Rector, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Warrensburg Cemetery.
