Pierrette “Pete” Monroe, 86, of West Holcomb Street passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at her home, following a long illness.
Born December 4, 1928 in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Alexandra (Marcotte) Demers.
She married James “Leo” Monroe on August 6, 1955 and the couple spent 55 wonderful years together.
Pete worked as a store clerk at the North Creek Pharmacy for 35 years until her retirement in 1993. She was very proud of the fact she was employed by three generations of store owners including Charlie Teakel, Frank sr. and Jane Klippel, and their sons, Frank Jr. and Eric Klippel.
Besides spending time with her family, Pete enjoyed painting and tending to her flower gardens. She was very community minded and was a long time member of the North Creek American Legion Auxiliary, North Creek Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, as well as volunteering at Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and North Country Ministries.
She was a well known seamstress in the area, sewing for many local friends and businesses.
Besides her parents and beloved husband, Leo, she is predeceased by her son, Charles “Chuckie” Monroe, sisters-in-law, Betty Monroe and Lottie Ellifritz, and brother-in-law, Elwin “Q-Ball” Monroe, Jr.
She leaves behind her daughter, Cheri Hayes and her husband, Steve of North Creek; two grandchildren, Drew and Bethany Hayes of North Creek; a brother, Marcel and Cecil Demers of Florida; brother-in-law, Harry Monroe and his wife, Nancy of North Creek; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Pete’s family from 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 7 pm at the funeral home.
Pete will be laid to rest with her husband, alongside their son, in St. James Cemetery, North Creek at a time to be announced.
