Kathryn M. “Kay” Porter, 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Diamond Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Troy surrounded by her loving family.
She was a long time resident of Ticonderoga, before relocating to Mechanicville 13 years ago.
Born September 23, 1921 in Ticonderoga, she was the fourth of ten children born to the late Charles E. and Mary E. (Hingston) Norton.
Kay married Glen L. Porter on April 19, 1941 at the Hague Baptist Church, they spent 48 blissful years together before his passing in 1990.
Upon Glen’s retirement from International Paper Co., the couple, along with their friends, put many miles on their motorcycles, traveling across the United States and to Nova Scotia.
Kay had a lovely voice, and enjoyed singing, as well as camping, snowmobiling, waterskiing, blue grass music, and dancing. Before her eyesight failed, she relished in reading, especially the bible, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and birdwatching with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and late husband, Kay was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret Nedeau, Charles Norton, Helen Poolet, Marion Whitford, and infant brother’s, Bernard and John Norton.
She is survived by three sons, Glen L. Porter, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Crown Point, John Porter of Voorheesville, and his soul mate, Audrey Halse, of Watervliet, and Thomas Porter of Ticonderoga; four grandchildren, Todd Porter of MD, Scot Porter of AZ, and Shane Porter and Shelly Wertz, both of Ticonderoga; four adopted grandchildren, Robin Pauquette of Delmar, Robert Thatcher of Ticonderoga, Kim Murphy of East Greenbush, and Lynn Halse of Watervliet; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosalie Nichols of Mechanicville, Betty Davis of Ticonderoga, and Shirley Norton of Albany; a sister-in-law, Norma Norton of Ticonderoga; cousin, Rose Harrington of Fort Edward; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Friends may call on Kay’s family from 11 am to 12 noon, Monday, March 2, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at the funeral home, at noon, Monday, with Fr. Paul Cox officiating.
Kay will be laid to rest privately,in the spring, beside her beloved husband, in Valley View Cemetery, Ticonderoga.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be her grandchildren, Todd, Scot, and Shane Porter, and her adopted great-grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, Casey Caswell, and Madison Ruhl.
To remember Kay in a special way, her family has asked the expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in her memory to the North Eastern Assoc. of the Blind, 301 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12206.
