Obituary of Roy J. West

North Creek:
Roy James West, Sr., 66, of Byrnes Road, passed away suddenly, Monday, October 21, 2013 after being stricken at his home.
Born July 7, 1947 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Hilda I. (Fish) West of North Creek and the late Earl P. West, Sr.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Pottersville Central School.
Roy was employed at the North Creek Woodworking Co. for nearly 35 years. He also took great pride in helping construct the radio telescope at the Dudley Observatory in Bolton.
Besides spending time with his beloved family, Roy enjoyed the great outdoors. He could often be found tending to his garden, taking wildlife photos, listening to music, tending to the family homestead, having coffee at the Black Bear with his friends, and was an avid car enthusiast.
Roy will be remembered as a compassionate man and a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, and neighbor. He was always willing to help a friend or family in need.
Besides his father, he is predeceased by a sister-in-law, Arlene West.
He is survived by his mother, Hilda West of North Creek; his children; a son, Spec. Roy West, Jr., who is currently serving our country in Korea, and his wife, Kristy of Sandy Creek; daughters, Lori West and Lisa West, and their mother, Lois Hammond, all of Pottersville; his brothers, John J. West and his wife, Laura Mae of North Creek and Earl P. West, Jr. of Minerva; his grandchildren: Damian and Tayton West of Sandy Creek and Caitlyn Ritson of Pottersville; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Roy’s family from 12 to 2 pm, Friday, October 25, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Minerva, Route 28N, Minerva.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at the church at 2 pm with The Rev. Gregory Dyson, pastor officiating.
Burial will follow in Minerva Baptist Cemetery.
