Obituary of David F. Monthony

North River:
David F. Monthony, 65, left this earthly home, Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Glens Falls Hospital, following recovery from surgery.
Born June 22, 1948 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Olive (Floyd) Monthony of North River and the late Frederick S. Monthony.
Dave enjoyed the beauty of the Adirondacks while hunting, fishing, camping, and was known for his quick wit and embellished story telling that captivated his audience and kept them laughing. He was a jokester that loved to be around people, however a caring soul, lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Dave also learned much at the side of his grandmother, Ruth B. Monthony, becoming an accomplished cook, assembling many feasts.
He served briefly in the United States Navy, before being medically discharged in 1970.
Throughout his lifetime Dave was employed by Northern Distributing, the Town of Johnsburg, and lastly, retiring from the NYS DOT in 2010. Dave was a member and past chief of the North River Fire Department.
Besides his father, he is predeceased by his first wife, Sandy (Harrington) Patton, and a niece, Sheila (Monthony) D’Avignon.
In addition to his mother, Dave is survived by his wife, Marsha (French) Monthony of North River; his daughters, Jennifer Kerber of MN, Julie Allen and her husband, Matthew, and Ruth Monthony and her fiancé, James Buzby, all of North River; two grandchildren, Madelyn Kerber and Jennie Lyn Allen; two brothers, Stephen Monthony and his wife, Phyllis, of South Glens Falls, and Scott Monthony and his wife, Judy, of North River; his aunts, Joyce and Janet Monthony, and Eleanor Hosnor; nieces and nephews, Brittany McGowin and her husband, Jim, Tyler Monthony and his fiancé, Raina Miller, Steve Monthony and his wife, Heather; great nieces and nephews, Aurora, Sierra, and Dane Monthony, Liam and Owen McGowin, and Dylan D’Avignon. He also leaves behind several cousins and close friends.

At Dave’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
A Celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the North Creek Fire House, 134 Main St., North Creek; please bring a story and dish to share.
