Obituary of Mildred W. Decker

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warrensburg: Mildred W. Decker, 86, a longtime Library Ave. resident, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2008 at Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 30, 1922 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of Fred and Beatrice (Peters) Wunderlich. In 1943, Mildred earned a nursing degree from the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Detroit. It was important to her to hold registered nursing licenses in Michigan, Colorado, and New York throughout her lifetime. She married Clifford G. Decker in July of 1947 in Detroit. The couple moved to Warrensburg in 1948 when Clifford accepted a position as foreman at Ridin-Hy Ranch. Mildred’s nursing career was long and varied. She worked in Colorado Springs, where she was a Newborn Unit Supervisor. She did private duty nursing, worked at Glens Falls Hospital, and spent 18 years as the Nursing Supervisor at Evergreen Haven in Warrensburg. Mildred’s faith was very important to her. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Glens Falls, and a supporter of the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg, where she sang in the choir. Mildred loved music and was involved in various community productions. She regularly entertained at area nursing homes with the Warrensburg Sing Out group. In addition to her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Clifford Decker; her sister, Blanche Wunderlich; and grandson, Timothy A. Randall II. She is survived by her three daughters: Jeanne Tonnesen and husband, R. Michael of Queensbury; Kathi Decker and husband, Edward DuBois of Middletown; Patricia Quinn and husband, Greg of Glens Falls. Mildred is also survived by her grandchildren: Kristy Vecchio, Heidi Schempp, Edward DuBois, Jessica Quinn, Kacie Quinn, Cheryl Drake, Wendy Pogonowski, and Chad Randall; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Marguerite Keller, along with four nieces and nephews, all of Michigan. Mildred's family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and support staff at Westmount Health Facility and to the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Friends may call on Mildred’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Wednesday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St, Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 3890 Main St., Warrensburg with the Rev. Dawn Robbins, pastor and the Rev. Paul Wagner, Pastor of the Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd in Glens Falls officiating. Internment will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville at the convenience of the family. The fact that Mildred never realized just how special she really was is exactly what made her so special. Caring for others came as naturally to her as breathing, yet she lived her life in a totally unassuming manner. If you have been touched by Mildred’s kindness, her daughters ask that when you next perform or even witness an act of unconditional love, you simply think of her and smile.
