Vernon L. Galusha, 75, a longtime resident of Warrensburg passed away Sunday morning Nov. 26, 2006 at the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 7, 1931 in the town of Chester, he was the son of the late Roy and Helen (Ross) Galusha.
Vern served in the 7th US Army Division during the Korean War. He was a prisoner of war for 32 months and was discharged with the rank of Corporal in October of 1953. Upon his return from military service he married Elaine Millington and spent 20 years together before his young wife's untimely passing on June 15, 1974.
Vern enjoyed a career as a truck driver with various local companies before retiring in 1991.
He was a lifetime member of The Haskell Brothers VFW Post 4821 of Warrensburg, Disabled American Veterans, The Chosin Few, The Korean War Veterans, The North Anglers Fishing Club and a former trustee of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church.
Vern could often be found enjoying the down home camaraderie in the local diners. He was an avid musician who enjoyed calling square dancing and picking his guitar. Other hobbies included deep sea fishing in Maine, trout fishing in the Adirondacks and building small furniture for his family and friends. Above all he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Lyle Galusha and his wife, Karin; 3 daughters, Connie Hall and her husband, David, Wendy Olden and her husband, Larry and Kimberly Ross and her husband, Randy all of Warrensburg; 11 grandchildren, David Hall Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, Alycia Strobert and her husband, Mike, Amanda Hall and her fiancee', Tarone Liebman, Cory Galusha, Larry Olden Jr. and his wife, Sue, Tricia Olden, Kevin Galusha and his wife, Crystal, Heather Olden and her companion, Jerimiah Weatherwax, Joshua Olden, Tyler Olden and his companion, Jessica O'Neill and Garry Ross; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Galusha and his wife, Joyce of Broadalbin and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Vern's family from 6 until 9p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St, Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Judy Humphrey-Fox, pastor of Lake George First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:00 pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Vern's 7 grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial donations may be made in Vern's memory to The American Cancer Society, 959 State Rt. 9 Mt. Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804 or to the Disabled American Veterans, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
Vern's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors and Nurses in the Tower 5 Critical Care Unit and the Renal Dialysis Unit at Glens Falls Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion during his illness.
