Obituary of Thomas P. Walter

Orange Park, FL / North River: Thomas Paul Walter, 70, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away with his son at his side on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park. Born August 9, 1945 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the oldest son of the late Paul Jennings Walter Jr. and Mildred (Fish) Walter of Johnsburg. Tom attended Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, MA. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and business owner residing in the house he built in Lake Winola, PA for a number of years. He was married to Susan Kay (Wiles) Murray and is survived by their two children, Michael Ashley Walter, USN SCPO (Ret.) of Fleming Island, FL and Heather (Walter) Speight of Portland, OR. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Prouty and her husband, Leon of Johnsburg. Tom moved to Cottage Grove, OR to be with his children, built another house, and started another business there, Vintage Autos. He is predeceased by his long term partner, Kathy Sue Nordall, of Cottage Grove, OR. He was de facto step-father to, and is survived by her children Scott Alan Nordall and Kelly Kay (Nordall) Hurd, both of Cottage Grove, OR. After all of his kids moved out, Tom returned to the Adirondacks and settled in North River to help Paul and Millie with their business operations at Crane Mountain Service Center, P.J. Walter Excavating, and Walter Ready Mix. Tom had a long term relationship with Amy Hammond of North Creek, NY and was once again a step-father of sorts to her three children and “Grumpy” to her grandchildren. Tom moved to Orange Park, FL in 2012 after his son Michael retired from the Navy there. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be celebrated at 2 pm, Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Friends may call on Tom’s family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg.
