Obituary of Charles W. Bowen

Warrensburg: Charles Warren "Charlie" Bowen of Warrensburg, and Fort Myers, Fla., died peacefully on Dec. 14, 2009, at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers. Charlie was born on Feb. 21, 1939, the son of the late Iona and Leroy "Roy" Bowen of South Glens Falls. He married his first love, Joan Powers, on Aug. 14, 1960. They raised three children together in South Glens Falls while Charlie worked for and eventually managed Peckham Materials Corp's asphalt plant in Hudson Falls. He spent the past seven years wintering at the Fort Myers Beach RV Resort with his many friends, and finally retired in 2008, with plans to spend all of the cold months riding his golf cart, biking and swimming in Florida. Throughout his life, he enjoyed all aspects of car racing, from driving stock cars to managing pit crews to spectating. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan; his daughters, Carol Sykes-Bowen, Virginia Miller-Bowen, and Sharon Bowen Murray; their spouses, Carey, Amy, and John; his three grandchildren, Nicholas Bowen, Benjamin Sykes, and Alyce Miller-Bowen; his sisters Alice Green and Marilyn Marston; and his relatives Joyce Atchison and Marjorie Peters. Charlie was affiliated with the Moose Club, Good Sam Club and Family Motor Coach Club. A wake will be held on Jan. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home in Warrensburg, followed by a Celebration of Life at St. Cecilia's Church on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. A memorial service was held on Dec. 17 at the Fort Myers Beach RV Resort, with Pastor Jim from the Port Charlotte Christian Missionary Alliance Church.
