Obituary of Viola T. Fish

Chestertown: It is with the saddest regret that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and family member Viola Theoda Fish, 97, wife of Frank Fish of Pottersville. Viola passed away early Friday morning December 21st, 2018, peacefully while at home surrounded by family. Born March 30th, 1921 in a 2-bedroom home on the burns road in the town of Chester. She was the eldest daughter of the late Leo and Julia LaPrairie. Viola attended North Warren high school and graduated with full honors. She entered the work force as a laborer shoveling coal, filling hoppers in the village of Tahawus. Later in life Viola also owned and operated several businesses in the town of Pottersville. In 1975 Viola began work as a nurse for the Moses Ludington nursing home where she spent 17 years caring for others until retiring in 1992 at the age of 71. She was recognized on several occasions as an outstanding employee of the year. Viola spent one year in retirement before re-entering the work force in 1993. She was employed with the Sagamore hotel and resort from 1993 until retiring again in 2005 at the age of 84. Viola then made spending time with family and loved ones her full-time career for the remainder of her life. Viola is survived by her sister Caroline Bennett, sons Bobby Flynn and Vern Fish and grandsons Bobby Flynn, Matthew T. Fish, Andrew I. Fish, David M. Fish and great grandchildren Lily Fish, Jeremiah Fish, Madisyn Fish, Orion Fish, Isaiah Fish and Alex Fish. In addition to her parents Leo and Julia LaPrairie, Viola is predeceased by her husband Frank Fish, brothers Leon and William LaPrairie, sons William and Jimmy Flynn as well as an unnamed son who was lost at birth. Friends may call on Viola’s family from 1 to 3 pm, Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 3 pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be conducted privately in Pottersville Cemetery.
