Obituary of Earl A. Barrett

Warrensburg: Earl Augustus Barrett, 89, of Marion Avenue, passed away comfortably, Friday, June 6, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and friends in the care of his daughters Kim McEachron and Goldia Whiting and their husbands. Born on February 11, 1925 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Leo and Eva (Coltey) Barrett. Earl was one of ten brothers and four sisters. Earl began his working years at R.J. Sweet Lumber Company in Warrensburg and eventually started his employment with Lake George Marine Industries, where he remained for many years until his retirement in the early 80’s. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, hunting, and hosting large family parties. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Geraldine Barrett; his eldest daughter Wanda Barrett, eldest son Earl “Pete” Barrett Jr., daughter Suzanne Williams, son Clark Barrett, daughter Wendy Prosser; his siblings: Lettie Burch, Madeline Donethorpe, Edith Lee, Doris Deso, Bennett, Morris, Lawrence, Fred, Frank, Claude and Gordon Barrett; and two grandchildren, Scott Barrett and Gary “Bucky” Barrett, Jr.. Earl is survived by his 12 children, four daughters: Anna VanGuilder and her husband Donald, of Warrensburg; Goldia Whiting and her husband, Al of Glens Falls; Betty Ostrander and her husband, Mark of Glens Falls; and Kim McEachron and her husband, John of Saratoga Springs; 8 sons: Leo Barrett of Warrensburg; Gary Barrett and his wife, Marytene of Warrensburg; Michael Barrett and his wife, Gail of Hudson Falls; Alden Barrett of Hudson Falls; James Barrett and his companion, Kathi of Edgewater Fla.; Tony Barrett and his wife, Kim of Gansevoort; Doug Barrett and his companion, Karen of Geneva; and Mark Barrett and his wife, Michelle of South Glens Falls; his brothers, Donald and David Barrett; 41 grandchildren, over 50 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Earl’s family from 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted 11 am, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Darrowsville Cemetery, Chestertown. Earl’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of Community Hospice of Saratoga County including Carolyn, Mary, and Karen for the excellent care and support they provided to Earl and his family.
