Obituary of Ruth M. Baker

Warrensburg: Ruth Marie Baker, 87, of Schroon River Road, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 14, 2017 at her home following a brief illness. Born October 19, 1929 in Athol, she was the daughter of the late Meredith and Jesse (Birch) Wilcox. She was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1947. Ruth married Leonard M. Baker, Sr., on June 20, 1948. She was an avid reader, voracious self-study, loved gardening, her hummingbirds as well as antiquing. Ruth and Leonard enjoyed spending time at their camp and many boat rides on Brant Lake. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt and cherished nothing more than spending time with her family. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Leonard, a son, John Baker, and a daughter, Nancy Baker. She is survived by her children, Leonard M. Baker, Jr. and his wife, Glenda, of Ann Arbor, MI, Tom R. Baker and his wife, Sheila, of Delmar, Tammy Hightower and her husband, Roger, of Corinth; her grandchildren, Graham Lewis, Sara and her husband, Evan and Joshua Baker and his wife, Katy, and Rachael Kimmerly. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Ruth’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Warrensburg Cemetery with Fr. Thomas Pettigrew, officiating. In lieu of flowers, Ruth’s family suggests donations be made to the Richards Library, 36 Elm St, Warrensburg, or Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg.
