Obituary of Nancy B. Castner

Brant Lake:
Nancy Evelyn Bamberger Castner better known as Nancy B Castner (NBC) died January 29, 2018 after an extended illness.
Born the daughter of Kenneth E. Bamberger Sr. and Corrinne L. Fairchild Bamberger at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital Jersey City, NJ on December 26, 1942. Married Curtis V Castner, son of Curtis & Muriel Castner of Upper Saddle River, NJ on March 17, 1962 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Middletown, NY.
The Castner’s fist lived in NJ and then in 1967 moved to the Adirondacks, Brant Lake where she resided until her death.
Nancy loved her family including their pets that she and Curt had throughout their years. She loved reading, writing stories and newspaper columns, photography and socializing with many friends. Nancy loved to travel and one of her favorite places was Cape Hatteras National Seashore, where her passion for the Hatteras Lighthouse began. She enjoyed the beauty of the ocean, collecting seashells and exploring the areas around the island.
Nancy was dedicated mother to her children and grandchildren, and was considered a mother too many others. She touched many throughout her life and holds a special place in many people’s hearts. Nancy worked various jobs throughout her years in Brant Lake but was passionate writing articles for local newspapers about the community she loved. She was also known as the “Avon Lady” for many years. Nancy had a strong belief in helping other and was involved in many events and community organizations in the area.
Nancy is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Curtis V. Castner, loving parents Kenneth & Corinne; Brother Kenneth Bamberger Jr., Step-son Douglas V. Castner, and Sister- in- law Riika Frisbee.
She is survived by her four children, Brett Castner of Saratoga, CA; daughters, Sherelyn J. Castner, Middle Grove, NY, Christal J. VanWickler, husband Matthew J. VanWickler of Columbia, SC and Kelly J. Baldwin, husband Brian K. Baldwin of Glens Falls, NY; five grandchildren, Candace V. Johnson, Christina J. Phillips, Caroline A. Lynch, Nicholas R. VanWickler and Duane Spignardo and five great grandchildren, Adeline, Conner & Hunter Spignardo; Scarlett A. Johnson & Madelyn J. Phillips; brother William G. Bamberger of WA and several extended family members.
The family would like to thank the Horicon Fire Department, North Warren Emergency Squad and the many friends that helped care for her throughout the years especially Vickie Stark and Tracy Evans in her final days.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be conducted in Brant Lake Cemetery at a time to be announced later this year.
In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation be made to the following organizations, North Warren Emergency Squad, the Human Society or Christopher Reeve’s Foundations.
