Kerry M. Killon, 73, of Town Shed Road., passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 23, 1943 at his childhood home in Olmstedville, he was the son of the late Bernard and Ruth (Morehouse) Killon.
Kerry and his wife, Joyce spent time living in fire tower cabins on several mountain tops, including Vanderwhacker Mountain, a cabin they nicknamed their “honeymoon cottage,” as well as Adams and Goodnow Mountains.
He was employed by the Minerva Highway Department for 34 years.
He was an active, faithful member with the Minerva Vol. Fire Dept. & Rescue Squad for an astonishing 51 years. He led the department as Fire Chief for over 25 years and is remembered for his calm and trusting leadership both on fire calls and behind the scenes. He was honored as the Minerva 2011 Citizen of the Year.
Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, rodeos, hunting for ginseng with his father and tearing up the pavement on his scooter with his wife.
Other than his parents and his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 49 years, he is predeceased by his grandmother, Gladys Roblee, brother, Robert Killon, brothers-in-law, Jimmy Wamsley and Randy Arnold and sister-in-law, Rita Arnold.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim Marie (Killon) Monthony and her husband, Christopher, of Minerva; a grandson, “A.J.” Monthony, of Minerva; his siblings, Jack Killon and his wife, Priscilla of Indian Lake, and Kathy Wamsley of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Michele) Arnold of Holly Hill, FL, Charles Arnold of Olmstedville, Edward (Gerri) Arnold of Glens Falls. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends may call on Kerry’s family from 2 to 4, pm, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Minerva Firehouse, Route 28N, Minerva.
A celebration of his life will immediately follow the visitation at 4 pm, at the fire house, with Chaplain and Pastor Chad Haneman of the Grace Bible Fellowship Church, officiating. Firematic services will be conducted by several local fire companies. Please feel free to bring a memory to share.
