Obituary of Rachel M. McGrath

Warrensburg: Rachel (French) McGrath, 92, of Thomson St., passed away peacefully, Monday, November 6, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born December 17, 1924 in Bolton Landing, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Mary (Sherman) French. Rachel graduated from Bolton Central School in 1942, always joking that she graduated in the top ten of her class, because there were only nine students. She enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 and was stationed in Des Moines, IA, Augusta, GA, and Oliver General Hospital, all before her honorable discharge in 1947. Rachel worked as a cook for Robert and Fran Grant at the Stone Gate from 1955 to 1984, where she cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week, from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, until the business was sold to Don and Mary Clinton. She then continued to cook breakfast and lunch until 2011, after a total of 55 years of dedicated employment. Rachel was always ready to go on a road trip anywhere or up to going out for a meal. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her late husband, Thomas McGrath who passed away in 1972, infant brother, David, brother, Gorden French, son-in-law, Larry Webster, brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Harrington and Emil Emery. She is survived by her children, Mary (French) Baker and her husband, Dennis, of South Glens Falls, Patricia (McGrath) Webster of Glens Falls, Janet (McGrath) and her husband, Robert Filsinger of Syracuse, and Thomas McGrath and his wife, Jodie (Rumble), of Virginia; nine grandchildren, Eric, James, Holly, Cecily, Tonya, Ashley, Ryan, Thomas, and John; nine great-grandchildren, Charlie, Isabella, Gabrielle, Alyssa, Emily, Natalie, Cayden, Little T, and Henry. She also leaves behind sisters, Janet Emery of Ohio, June Harrington and her companion, Robert Burns of Bolton Landing, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Rachel’s family from 10 to noon, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at noon, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bolton Rural Cemetery, Bolton.
