Obituary of Donald E. Wallace

Warrensburg: Donald E. “Bud” Wallace, Sr., 86, of James St., passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at his home, with his loving family by his side. Born June 13, 1927 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Beecher and Myrtle (Harris) Wallace. Affectionately known as Bud, he was a lifelong resident of the area, and a graduate of Warrensburg Central School, where he excelled in baseball as a pitcher; he was a prospect for the NY Giants, playing in the minor league. Bud married Frances Gordon on September 1, 1945 in Fairhaven, VT. He was drafted into the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during WWII in Pearl Harbor, and played the trumpet in the Navy band. Following his discharge from the military, Bud and his wife began their lifelong adventure in Warrensburg together, where their family quickly grew. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk, in Schenectady as a meter reader, before transferring to Warrensburg where he worked as a lineman. Bud was a former member of the Warrensburg Fire Company and Emergency Squad. He was an avid outdoorsman, and animal lover, who enjoyed bowling, skiing, hunting, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. Bud will be remembered for his brisk walks around town, accompanied by his beloved Yorkie, Shelby. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Norma Eldridge. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Frances Wallace of Warrensburg; his children, Laurie Collier of Warrensburg and Donald Wallace, Jr. and Nancy of Daytona, FL; four grandchildren, Daniel J. Collier and his wife, Dodie, of Trenton, GA, Melanie J. Albright and her husband, Kenny, of Stillwater; Donald E. “Buddy” Wallace, III, and Darryl Wallace and his wife, Stacy, all of Bell, FL. He also leaves behind special nieces and nephews, Cookie, Bunny, Debbie, Lewis, Bernie, Jeffery, and Warren, and several great-grandchildren, and cousins. Friends may call on Bud’s family from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A Life Tribute will conclude the visitation, at 8 pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
