Obituary of Donald W. Walp

Johnsburg: Donald W. Walp, 85, of Cleveland Road, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side following a courageous battle with COPD. Born December 1, 1928 in Bridgeton, NJ, he was the son of the late Andrew and Irma (Cleringbold) Walp. A true patriot, Don served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He belonged to the Metuchen, NJ, Masonic Lodge #145, and was a Shriner member for 63 years. Don was a member of “Our Town Theater Group” in North Creek, and a past member of the North Creek Rotary. He was an avid skier, and was part of the “Goofs” of Gore Mountain; a group of frequent skiers. Don also enjoyed hunting and hiking. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Gene and Andrew Walp. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55, Betty Walp of Johnsburg; his sons, Bruce Walp and his wife, Diane, of North Brunswick, NJ, Douglas Walp and his wife, Donna, of Somerset, NJ; Grandchildren, Bobbie Jane and Marissa Anne Walp; his brother, Thomas Walp and his wife, Ruth, of CA; his sister-in-law, Elda Walp of DE. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Don’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of his family.
