Obituary of Dorothy G. Wood

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warrensburg: Dorothy G. Wood, 98, of Ridge Avenue, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Westmount Health Facility, following a brief illness. Born July 17, 1917 in Lake George, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ada (Ingraham) Norton. Because her father was a forester, Dorothy grew up in various locations, primarily in Lake George and Northwest Bay in North Bolton. As a child, she attended school for the blind, and despite being blind in one eye, Dorothy had a fantastic outlook on life; she never let it stop her from doing what she wanted to do. She saw the beauty in everything from birds, flowers, and enjoying long rides, to the fall foliage and winter wonderlands. Following her high school graduation, Dorothy was employed in the textile industry in Great Barrington, MA, and later at the Warrensburg Shirt Factory. She was united in marriage to Clarence I. Wood on October 20, 1948 at the Lake George Methodist Church by Rev. Joel Shippy. The couple resided in Warrensburg where they raised their family, enjoying 52 blissful years together until his passing on April 28, 2001. In addition to spending time with her family, Dorothy enjoyed cooking large dinners, baking for her family and neighbors, playing cards and Dominoes, gardening in her greenhouse, taking great pride in her flowers, and making holiday wreaths, May Day baskets, and tissue paper bouquets; all things she was able to do into her mid nineties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg. Besides her parents and beloved husband, she is predeceased by her daughter, Suzanne Wood, and siblings, Lucille Dutcher, Winifred Hallahan, and Frederick A. Norton. She is survived by her son, Ronald Wood of Glens Falls; sister-in-law, Mae Wood of Corinth; as well as several nieces, nephews, special friends, and neighbors. At Dorothy’s request, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled. Burial in Warrensburg Cemetery will be conducted privately, at the convenience of her family. Dorothy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Westmount Health Facility for the outstanding care and compassion she received during her illness. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a charity of ones choice. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guest book and condolences.
