Obituary of John Younes

Brant Lake: John Younes, 82, of Duell Hill Road, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital, following a long battle with dementia. Born March 28, 1935 in Brant Lake, he was the son of the late Elwin and Edna (Morehouse) Younes. On July 2, 1966 he married Shirley Moffitt, also of Brant Lake; the couple spent 51 years together. Mr. Younes was a long time employee at two sawmills, working at Dave Martin’s for 22 years, and 16 years at Coopers Lumber. He also worked for the town of Horicon, as a wingman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and vacations with his wife and the senior group, Recycled Teenagers, from Argyle. Besides his parents, John is predeceased by three sons, Michael, John J., and Jonathan Younes, siblings, Carrie Paull, Elwin Younes Jr., Elizabeth Jensen, Marion Millington, Harry Younes, Lillian Sharp, and close friends Sam and Halah Augusta. He is survived by three sons, Berton Younes and his wife, Eileen, of Texas, William Younes and his wife, Christine, of Queensbury, and Ralph Younes and his wife, Linda, of Conway, SC; a daughter, Tammy Younes-Needham and her companion, Jeff McCormick of Lexington, SC; Pheobe David, James Younes, Donald and wife, Joan, Asa and wife, Connie, Jackie and companion, Betty, Carl and wife, Diana, Gary Younes, Larry and wife, Patty, and Alice and companion, Ted. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog, pepper. At John’s request there will be no calling hours scheduled. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be conducted in Brant Lake Cemetery in the spring at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in John’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
