Obituary of Rollin L. Swinton

North Creek: Rollin L. Swinton, 85, of Main Street, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Indian River Rehabilitation Center in Granville. Born October 26, 1927 in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Ralph and Cornelia (Goodspeed) Swinton. Rollin was a graduate of Minerva High School, Class of 1945. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946 and served his country in Japan, receiving the Army Occupation and World War II Victory Medals. Following his honorable discharge in 1947, he attended Albany Business College, where he earned his Associates Degree in Business Administration & Accounting. Rollin married Norma Jane Freebern on September 16, 1951. He worked as an Accountant and Office Manager for NL Industries for 41 years until his retirement in 1990. Rollin enjoyed reading, gardening, and taking day trips with his family. He was a member of the North Creek Fire Company, Johnsburg Rescue Squad, and American Legion, all while being very active in his church; he was a friend to all in his community. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Norma Jane Swinton, and his siblings, Jennie VanDusen, Elsie Baxter, and Betty Bolton. Rollin leaves behind his children, Barry Swinton of North Creek and Jill Swinton of Pine Plains; his sisters, Barbara DeGrush of Friends Lake and Bea Eggleston of North Creek; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Rollin’s family from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 1 pm at the funeral home with the Rev. James Meek, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the North River Cemetery.
