Obituary of William Bennett

Brant Lake:
William Bennett, 93, of Horicon Ave., passed away peacefully Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.
Born April 28, 1917 in Graphite, he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Hill) Bennett.
Bill married Evelyn Naar on December 1, 1934 and the couple resided in Brant Lake their entire time together.
Bill was a stone mason and carpenter by trade and worked on many local homes and businesses in the area over the years.
For over 32 years, he served with distinction as the Town of Horicon Justice of the Peace. He also served on the Horicon Town Board for 17 years and on the Horicon School Board for 6 years, for a total of over 55 years serving his community.
Bill was a charter member and Past Chief of the Horicon Vol. Fire Co. He also was the oldest member and past Master of the Warrensburgh Lodge 425 F&AM and he was a past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Local 186 Laborers Union and a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brant Lake and presently is a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Pottersville.
His beloved wife of 69 years, Evelyn passed away on September 13, 2003, his 13 brothers and sisters, grandson, Benjamin Purdy and great granddaughter, Amanda Purdy.
Survivors include his two daughters, Astrid (Bunny) Battey of Brant Lake and Marilyn Bennett-Scarkino of Picayune, Miss.; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
All dearly loved Narnie and Papa.
Friends may call on Bill’s family from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Members of the Horicon Vol. Fire Co. will gather and conduct a service at 7 pm during the visitation, followed by a Masonic service by members of the Warrensburgh Lodge 425 F&AM.
A graveside service will take place 11 am Friday, May 7 in the Brant Lake Cemetery with Fr. Robert Limpert officiating.
