My sincerest condolences to EJ's family and friends. I knew EJ for as long as I can remember, he was a welcome guest of my family at Basil and Wicks restaurant. I can remember EJ helping me adjust my skis and generally being another "uncle" throughout my youth. Later on in life I spent many hours on ambulance runs with him in service with the NCFD, and spent many happy hours with him at fire company activities. I even ran in to him years later when I was with the State Police and we had quite a time talking over the old days.
Rest well old friend, you were a valued friend and mentor and never heard a cross word from you.

We will all join you on the "westbound" someday in our future. It was a great ride before and will be the best in the future.
A long whistle at 4:00pm on the 24th will be our tribute to a friend and railroader.

Firefighters are a one of a kind type of people....forever putting themselves on the line to serve, protect and save many a stranger as well as people they know. They NEVER stop and think of themselves first, only the job at hand. EJ was the perfect example of that type of unwavering devotion and love to his firefighter brothers and those of us he was there for. Now it is our turn to pray for his family and extend our hands in your direction. May God bless and keep you all safe; help heal the pain and find the spot within you where the memories will bring a smile that will over-ride the tears. EJ is sorely missed and will be forever in the hearts and minds of his family, friends and "Brothers" from the N.C.F.D.

My first contact with Ernie was at the Alco Mechanical Lab in 1954. I fondly recall his kindness in helping me along - a low level engineering trainee. Next time we met was 45 years later at the N Creek Alco reunion.
Have a good journey Ernie. We will miss you. Tom and Sherry

To Al and all of "EJ's" family. I am very sorry for your loss. He was a fixture at Gallagher's Restaurant for a good many years. His stool was always kept open for him at the end of the bar near the front door so he could always greet customers as they came in. He loved his rare Prime Rib and of course his libations. The Gallagher's Restaurant family of customers...rest in peace "EJ"

Ernie will be fondly remembered by our family. The booth at Casey's North and the bar stool at the end of the bar was always "Open" for him when he arrived. Our girls always enjoyed seeing him and serving him. He was a kind-hearted man that we will greatly miss.
Ernie,
You've gone to a better place where you can be center stage and keep them all in stitches.

To EJ's family and all who knew him-
We have lost a man who will never be replaced. I can't count the times at the fire house that EJ would make our night with a joke from his shirt pocket. He was a caring man who served his country and then his community throughout his life. He was an active fire policeman right up till the bitter end. RIP EJ- we will all miss you!

I've known EJ about all my life. He was always around with a joke in his pocket and a smile on his face. I have the pleasure of serving with him in the North Creek Fire Department as he directed traffic for the parades or to clear the way for us to get to a scene. You could always count on ol' EJ...if he was in town, he'd be there. Anyone touched by his presence was truly blessed! We'll miss ya EJ. God bless you and your family!.....and Thanks!
